Piece Slave
Cleone Ribeiro lives in So Jos do Rio Preto - So Paulo.
Graduated in Philosophy at the University of So Paulo, Professor of Theory of Literature at So Paulo State University, "Jlio de Mesquita Filho", she also devotes herself to Fine Art and Literature. She has won awards in painting and poetry. Presently she has been dedicating herself to jewellery design taking couses in So Paulo, however, it's the first time that she has participated in a jewellery design competition. Her extensive humanistic formation, which is focused on artistic creation, is directed, whenever possible, to the valorisation of the human being. The "Slave Bracelet" jewel was conceived in this concept, inspired on the Negro race, the beauty and? sensuality of its people. At the time when the Brazilian authorities show their concern about the social injustices to which the Negro race has been victim, the artist manifests her solidarity to the cause, paying homage to the slave as an element of fundamental importance in the make up of the Brazilian people. The bracelet, a part held by chains and another part loose, represents as much the period of slavery as the emancipation of the Negro people in Brazil. The crafting of a valuable jewel helps to raise the African Brazilians to their deserved social position.
